Brand Washing

We all know that a Red Square with white letters in it mean Hanes, right??
You may not think you do, but I bet you subconsciously do.

On a trip to my local Target store my daughter and I stumbled upon a new section at the back of the store. There were lots of piles of what we perceived to be Clearance Items.

OK, existing in that mindset, we began to rummage. We found stacks of sort sleeve t-shirts with neon orange stickers on them (which we all know means CHEAP) for $2. WOAH! Stopped us dead in our tracks. We also noticed that famous red square with the white letters on the neck label - $2 for a real brand name t-shirt. We grabbed up a few in our size and headed to the checkout.

The checkout clerk even asked where we found these fantastic $2 tees.

Back at home I tried my t-shirt on - something looked strange to me though. The red square had an "L" where Hanes should be.  This was NOT a Hanes tee! No one could have convinced me I didn't just buy a Hanes Tee. I cannot believe I was duped and never knew it until I was out of the shopping world where branding bombards us from every angle.
